The daily calcium requirements for babies according to the doctors vary according to the age. From the infant stage to about 6 months, babies need around 400 milligrams of calcium each day. When the babies are of 6 months, they need around 600 milligrams. Those who are of 12 months to 2 years, the amount is 800 milligrams. Finally, from age 2 on up, the amount of calcium required is 1200 to 1500 milligrams. The calcium rich baby food will provide the child with the appropriate amount of calcium.

There are various food items which have high calcium contents. Some of these include spinach, broccoli, squash, apples, tortillas, pita bread, lentils, dates, black-eyed peas, popcorn, fish shrimp and various types of beans. You should include these items in the calcium rich baby food. Before giving the child any kind of calcium rich baby food, consult with the doctor and take his or her permission.

A popular calcium rich baby food is apple date yogurt breakfast. A lot of mothers serve their babies with this food. The ingredients of this dish includes nonfat yogurt, sliced, ripe apples or applesauce, cooked brown rice, dates, ripe, chopped and pitted and a cup of milk of any type--soy, formula, etc. You will have to place all ingredients in a blender and blend until the consistency is smooth.

Another popular calcium rich baby food is baked acorn squash and brown rice. A number of mothers offer this dish to their babies and they love to have it. This dish can be given to the babies in the lunch time. The ingredients of this dish includes acorn squash, half cup of cup cooked brown rice and half cup milk.

In order to make baked acorn squash and brown rice, you will have to bake or microwave the squash. This will make the seeds and the pulp easier to scoop out.

If you are using the microwave you will have to put the squash in a bowl and add an inch of water. Then place all ingredients in a food processor and mix it until it is smooth and creamy.
Preheat the oven to 350 and then bake for 45 minutes.

Brown Rice and Lentil is another calcium rich baby food. Some of its ingredients are cooked lentils, carrots - steamed and pureed, apples - chopped and steamed, cooked brown rice and milk. Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix until the consistency is smooth.
