Oral Problems in Babies

Many kinds of oral problems in babies cause major health hazards in the babies. One of the major oral problems is tooth decay. This child disease has its other name like nursing bottle syndrome, nursing caries and early childhood caries. This is one of the oral problems in babies which occurs when the teeth of the baby are in frequent contact with liquid carbohydrates containing sugar. These liquid carbohydrates include sweet drink, fruit juice with water, formula, milk and fruit juice. The liquid breaks into simple sugar in the mouth of the baby.

The portion of the sugar which remains inside the mouth is responsible for many kinds of oral diseases. Bacteria grows on the sugar in mouth of the babies. The bacteria causes decaying of teeth in the mouth of the babies. Oral problems in babies often create serious health hazards. The problem of decaying tooth causes even tooth ache. The child finds it difficult to eat and chew. If the tooth of the baby is decayed to a large extent the result is the crooked teeth.

If the teeth of the baby are damaged to a great extent the result is the permanent damage of the adult teeth. The infection of the decayed teeth spreads around other teeth as well in the mouth.

Tips to prevent the problems of decaying teeth

Give your child food free from sugar. This will give your child healthy teeth. From the first birthday teach your child to drink from a cup. You should try to stop the habit of your baby to drink from a sipping cup. Sipping cup exposes the teeth of your child to the substances like sugar.

After every feeding remove the sugar from your child's teeth and gum by a wet cloth. This makes the teeth of your child free from the bacteria. If the water that your child is drinking is free from fluoride you may give your child a fluoride treatment. In this regard, you can take the help of a dentist.

Tongue thrusting is one of the oral problems in babies. It is an unhealthy habit of eating food by thrusting the upper part of the tongue against the lips. The habit of tongue thrusting gives pressure on the front teeth. The teeth became protruded. The protruded teeth becomes an impediment on the way of proper development of the speech.
