  • When they are born too soon (before 37 weeks of pregnancy)
  • When they are small for their gestational age
  • When a mother is carrying more than one baby, such as twins or triplets
  • When the mother is too much exposed to smoking
  • If the mother is in stress and is not getting proper family support
  • Some infections in pregnant women, such as bladder or vaginal infections, can also cause labor to start early resulting in low birth weight of baby
  • Adjusting with stressful work conditions during pregnancy such as long hour work, standing on your feet for long hours and exposure to harmful substances.
  • When the mother have experienced previous abortions
