During pregnancy women need to consume more of healthy diet and proteins are among the best sources which ensure the aspect of physical well being of both the mother and the infant in her womb. According to the experts pregnant women must consume at least 60 grams of protein per day while those women having twins need more intake of proteins. Protein requirement tends to fulfill the physical growth and development of the cells of the baby. Protein intake for pregnant women is also required for placenta, maternal tissues, and amniotic tissues.

In fact intake of proteins also adds to new blood cells as during pregnancy most women experience a 50% increase in the volume of blood. Protein intake for the pregnant women also helps in production of breast milk and on the whole pregnancy and lactation tend to increase the demand for proteins. Women in developed countries mostly consume more than 60 grams of protein. Inadequate intake of proteins during the time of pregnancy is known to jeopardize the over all development and growth of the infant and also adds to the problem of giving birth to a low weight infant. More over inadequate protein intake also effects the brain development of the fetus.

The various food items providing you with proper calories and quantity of protein are known to be cheese, cottage milk, dry or low fat milk powder, yogurt, chocolate milk, baked beans, roasted soy nuts, peanuts, almonds, black walnuts, Brazil nuts, Soybean curd, and egg, salad. In most cases during pregnancy doctors tend to recommend a vegan diet for the pregnant mothers which also adds to the nourishment for the infant.

The intake of alcohol should be avoided strictly as they can be harmful for the infant's development. In fact during pregnancy its advisable to avoid caffeine and spicy food items which may ultimately result to miscarriages. Consumption of fish during pregnancy is highly helpful in adding to the protein content in your body. During pregnancy intake of proteins actually adds to the health of both the mother and the infant in her womb and also reduces the chances of miscarriages and problems during delivery.

In developing countries mostly pregnant women fail to consume the proper amount of proteins that's required for the maintenance of the health of the mother
and the infant in her womb and these result in major problems in pregnancy and delivery as well.
