Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common gynecological problem evident in one woman among eight. According to researches breast cancer the most common and predominant disease only after lung cancer. Researches have also revealed that breast cancer alone has lead to 5,02,000 deaths all over the world.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

The most common symptom of breast cancer is the presence of a lump associated with changes in shape and size of the breast. Lump in the collar bone region and also in the armpits can also result in breast cancer. Sometimes these lumps are accompanied with pain but pain may also occur due to other breast related health hazards like mastodynia.

Sometimes inflammation may occur as cancer cells and tend to enter into the dermal lymphatics. Inflammatory breast cancer as it is popularly known is often associated with swelling, pain and a redness all over the breast. Most of the times the symptoms are too mild at the initial stages and hence cannot be properly diagnosed. The patient should be more careful and must take the advice of the doctor in case she feels the presence of lumps or any other symptoms.

Diagnosis of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer can be diagnosed after the removal of the breast tissues. Surgeons usually rely on biopsy for proper diagnosis. Examinations conducted at various stages of the disease yield different results.

  • TX Stage- Presence of primary tumors cannot be evaluated.
  • TO Stage- No sign of tumor.
  • T1 Stage- Size of the tumor is more or less 2 cm.
  • T2 Stage- Size of the tumor is between 2 cm and 5 cm.
  • T3 Stage- Size of the tumor is above 5 cm.
  • T4 Stage- Tumor growing in the skin or chest wall.

  • NX Stage- Adjacent lymph nodes cannot be evaluated.
  • NO Stage- Regional lymph nodes are not effected by cancer.
  • N1 Stage- Internal Mammary Lymph Node is effected by cancer.
  • N2 Stage- Cancer is now evident in the internal mammary lymph node.
  • N3 Stage- Multiple results are evident at this stage. Either the disease has effected the axillary lymph nodes or lymph nodes present in the collar bones.

  • MX Stage- Presence of Metastasis cannot be felt.
  • MO Stage- The disease is confined within specific regions.
  • M1 Stage- Cancer has effected the surrounding regions. Treatment of Breast Cancer

    Surgery is the only treatment applicable for breast cancer.In most cases surgery is associated with radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immune therapy and hormone therapy.

  • Post operational care is necessary for complete cure.
