During pregnancy, women may suffer from several medical problems in pregnancy. Some of these medical problems in pregnancy increase the risk of problems for pregnant women or the fetus. They include problems that can cause a high temperature, several infections as well as disorders that require surgery.

Some critical medical problems are more likely to take place during pregnancy. The reason behind this is the changes in woman's body that occur during pregnancy. Thromboembolic disease, anemia, and urinary tract infections are some of the well known medical problems in pregnancy. There are a lot of medical problems that take place during pregnancy. Thyroid disease, hematologic disease, Seizure Disorders, Thrombocytopenia are also well known medical problems in pregnancy.

Fevers
A fever during the first trimester involves a greater risk of miscarriage. It can also cause defects of the brain or of the spinal cord of the baby. Fever at a later stage of pregnancy increases the possibility of preterm labor.

Infections
Some infections that occur coincidentally during a pregnancy can cause birth defects. German measles or rubella can infect the inner ear whereas Cytomegalovirus infection can affect the placenta and damage the liver and brain of fetus. Other viral infections like herpes simplex and chickenpox , Toxoplasmosis, Listeriosis, bacterial infections of the vagina can also harm the fetus and cause birth defects. These infectious medical problems in pregnancy also increase the chance of miscarriage, premature rupture or even death of fetus.

Disorders That Require Surgery
some medical problems in pregnancy also require surgery of abdomen. These type of surgery can increase the chance of preterm labor and can even cause a miscarriage, appendicitis, ovarian cyst and obstruction in intestine can also be a major problem of this sort.

Thromboembolic Disease
Thromboembolic disease is considered as the prime cause of death of pregnant women. In this disease blood clots form inside the blood vessel and while traveling through the blood stream, they can also block an artery. In thromboembolic disease, blood clots form in blood vessels. They may travel through the bloodstream and block an artery.

Anemia
Anemia or iron deficiency is another major medical problem in pregnancy. Most of the pregnant women suffer from anemia as their body do not get adequate amount of iron. At the time of pregnancy your body needs almost double the amount of iron that you take normally. The iron requirement increases in order to make red blood cells in the fetus. Folic acid deficiency is also the other cause of anemia.

However, in case of severe and persistent anemia, the capacity to carry oxygen decreases. Thus the fetus does not get enough oxygen. This can lead to damage of fetus as well as preterm labor.

Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections are common medical problems in pregnancy. The infection probably takes place because of the enlarging uterus that slows the flow of urine. This can also lead to several problems during pregnancy.
