Test Tube Babies

Test Tube Babies are another name of the babies who are born of In vitro fertilization (IVF). This technique of reproduction is named as test tube babies because the fertilization of the egg takes place outside the womb. The fertilization of the egg is done artificially with assistance. In vitro fertilization are opted by couples when the other methods of conceiving have not produced result. There are many other assisted reproductive technology which helps couple to have a child. In test tube babies, there are certain techniques that needs to be followed. In vitro fertilization has processes like taking the ova and sperm, placing it in the fluid for it to fertilize. This fertilization was done in a test tube due to which it was named as test tube babies.

In test tube babies, the fertilized egg is placed inside the uterus of the patient and from then on continues the natural growth of the baby. This process enables one to enjoy all the phase and joys of pregnancy. When there are problems in the fallopian tube, this process has been very helpful. In other complications as well this technique has been very helpful. In order to have babies by IVF, the sperm and the ova has to be healthy. There are certain hormonally induced conditions in order to get the best specimen. The uterus too should have the capability to undergo pregnancy. Those who have complications in the uterus must not opt for this process as there are possibilities of miscarriages.

Test tube babies can be conceived easily by those who have conceived earlier. In vitro fertilization (IVF) has four methods. Following these methods are necessary for the success of fertilization. The five methods used in In vitro fertilization (IVF) are ovarian stimulation, ooctye retrieval, fertilization, selection and embryo transfer.
In ovarian stimulation, there are certain medications that are administered in the body so that the body can be prepared for pregnancy and the egg can be extracted. The medications continue for 10 days after which comes the oocyte retrieval where the egg is retrieved. The eggs are retrieved from the ovaries by the means of ultrasound guided needle by the help of transvaginal technique. General anesthesia is done while retrieval.

Fertilization is carried out in the laboratory. After this stage comes the selection process where the fertilized egg is graded according to its quality. In embryo transfer, the embryologist transfers the embryo into the uterus after which the natural processes takes place.
The best embryo is planted in the uterus by the means of the plastic catheter. However in most cases, several embryos are implanted in the uterus in order to increase the chances of pregnancy.
