The medicines with teratogenic effect can have metabolic toxicity, anti metabolic toxic effects, Pharmaco-dynamic actions, etc. Administration of these medicines can even impair the cardiovascular system and can alter the endocrine balance.

The actions of drugs with teratogenic effects have a congenital formation problem in human fetus. These kind of harmful agents are often present in the medicines for curing or preventing tumor. Their teratogenic effects even act as immunosuppressive and cytotoxic elements inside the body of the patient. Several of the antibiotic drugs can also have the effect of teratogenic drugs. During pregnancy women must refrain from taking such medicines. Certain tooth problems have been found to develop among the children whose mothers have been treated with such anti-biotics during pregnancy.

The effect of the so called teratonic drugs may vary from person to person. Some of those have been found to be absolutely harmless after administering it to the patient. Anti epileptic drugs can have a strong effect of teratonic agents. Vasopression and Catecholamines have teratonic effect on animals, but those are almost harmless while consumed by man. The teratonic medicines can cause paralytic effects on the fetus, or even death. If the mother consumes Hexamethonuium drugs, the child can have such problems of death or paralysis. The mother administered with narcotic drugs often has children with the symptoms of fatal withdrawal.
