An important part of pregnancy and paternity is paternity leave. Paternity leave enable a father to take a few days or weeks off from work after a child is born. Most of the companies offer their employees with these types of leaves. In some countries these leaves are also known as parental leaves. This is considered to be similar to long term paternity leave for fathers who wish to take time off work in order to take care of their child.
Paternity leaves generally do not exceed six (6) months. This leave will be granted at the request of an employee for birth or adoption of a child. In certain conditions this leave can be extended to a certain period of time on request.
Paternity leave can be taken by employees who have or expect to have responsibility for the child's upbringing or they are the biological father of the child or the mother's husband or partner and have worked continuously for their employer for 26 weeks ending with the 15th week before the baby is due. On the other hand paternity leaves must be completed within 56 days of the actual date of birth of the child.
You should properly plan the paternity leaves once you get that. During this time you should spend most of the time with your baby and your wife. This will make them feel that you love them and also care for them. They will also feel a sense of security also. After the birth of the child you should spend some time with your wife as well. During this time, she will also be needing some emotional support from you.
Your wife will be in hospital when you get these paternity leave. After the delivery she will go through some physical changes. During this time, if you stay with her and help her adjusting to the changes, it will be easier for her to get well soon.

| You should also speak to the doctor about the health of the baby as well as your wife. This will help you in taking care of the baby as well as your wife.
Once she returns home from the hospital and if you have the paternity leaves left, make it a point to spend the maximum time with her and the baby. The baby will also develop a closeness with you. The baby will start recognizing you. Other than this, there are some post delivery check ups for both the mother and the child. Make it a point to accompany them to the doctor.
