Pelvic Exam

Pelvic Exam is conducted by the doctors when a woman continues to have the signs of pregnancy after the result for the urine test for pregnancy is negative.

About Pelvic Exam:

The doctor conducts Pelvic Exam 6 weeks after the last period.
The doctor applies pressure on the lower abdomen and simultaneously put fingers in the vagina by the side of cervix.
The patients are advised to loosen the muscles of abdomen and vagina.
The doctor measures the dimension of the fallopian tube,ovaries and the uterus.
The doctor also looks out for some of the signs of pregnancy like the relaxation of the uterine walls and the change in color of the cervix.
The cervix develops a blue color during pregnancy.

A pap smear test is done by the doctors for patients who had miscarriages in the past.
The cells of the cervix are taken and examined.
The pap smear test detects whether there are any cancerous cells in the cervix.

Pelvic Exam is an important test for detecting pregnancy.
The period of a woman who conceives stops. She also suffers from flatulence and nausea.

Pelvic Exam and pregnancy:

Morning Sickness is one of the most common symptoms during pregnancy.
The pregnant woman have a nauseating tendency after she gets up in the morning.
The breasts of a pregnant woman becomes heavy.

The presence of human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone in urine during pregnancy forms the basis of urine test.
However, the urine test may not be the confirmatory test for detecting pregnancy in some cases.
The doctor conducts pelvic exam in such cases to detect pregnancy.
