Molar Pregnancy

Molar Pregnancy is regarded as one of the most common gestational trophoblastic diseases across the world. This is also termed as false pregnancy by many medical practitioners. Molar Pregnancy is most common in large parts of Mexico and Southeast Asia. Nutritional deficiency or a protein deficiency in the pregnant woman usually results in this kind of pregnancy. Women who do not consume a healthy diet during pregnancy or are poor enough to afford a protein rich diet, may fall victims to Molar Pregnancy.

Symptoms of Molar Pregnancy

Molar Pregnancy occurs when the nucleus of an egg is lost in the process of fertilization. Such cases of inactivated nucleus results in the formation of a complete mole within the uterus of the lady. Under such weird circumstances, the sperm simply multiplies itself but there is no formation of the baby. Placenta, amniotic fluid and umbilical cord are also not found in Molar Pregnancy. The moles thus formed are nothing but fluid filled vesicles. They grow rapidly and increase the size of the womb to a great extent. Many women often mistake this as advanced stage of pregnancy. Bleeding into the uterine cavity continues as there is no placenta to receive the blood.

As compared to the complete mole a partial mole may also occur during Molar Pregnancy. Partial moles are created when a sperm fertilizes two eggs at the same time. Partial placentas membranes and fetus formation are a part of such Molar Pregnancy. In most of the cases, the child born out of a Molar Pregnancy, usually suffers from genetic disorders or other health complications. A nauseatic feeling coupled with vaginal bleeding are some of the earliest symptoms of Molar Pregnancy. No fetal movement or heart beat of the fetus is also a sure shot method of detecting Molar Pregnancy in women.

Treatment of Molar Pregnancy

Cases of Molar Pregnancy can be ideally diagnosed after a thorough ultrasonography of the uterus. If the Molar Pregnancy has developed into an advanced stage you can easily spot the moles which resemble a bunch of grapes in many ways. Molar Pregnancy will also reveal the lack of any placenta or umbilical cord. Immediate treatment includes cleansing the womb with antiseptic solutions and advanced treatment. The effect as seen on the ultrasound machine is like that of a snow storm. A woman may also discharge grape like tissues during Molar Pregnancy. In most of the cases a Molar Pregnancy ends by itself. But thorough cleaning of the vagina and the uterus are an essential part of the treatment of Molar Pregnancy.
