Pregnancy in 24th Week

Pregnancy in 24th week has the baby grown to a weight of about 1 to 1.5 pounds. The second trimester of pregnancy comes to an end with this week. The gradual gaining of weight continues in this phase of pregnancy. The health of the mother along with the baby develops rapidly. Growth of the baby within and gaining of weight makes movements slow and at times are restricting. As the baby keeps on growing, the uterus too expands so as to create space for the baby. This makes stretch marks on the abdominal region. Lack of space in the uterus leads to backaches, fatigue, soreness of feet and cramps. In the earlier stages of pregnancy, the baby had the space to move about as it pleases but now there is less space for the baby to indulge in free movements.

The discomforts caused by pregnancy in 24th week can be reduced if one exercises or attend the prenatal classes. The weight of the baby in the 24th week pregnancy ranges from 1 to 1.5 pounds. The lungs of the baby in this time has branches and special cells that helps in producing surfactant are produced. This surfactant is used for the inflation of the air sacs in the lungs. In case of premature birth, there are breathing problems faced by the baby because the surfactant in the lungs are not fully formed. The taste buds of the baby grows during the 24th week pregnancy. Muscles and bones grow stronger in the body of the baby. There are deposits of brown fat on the skin that helps the baby to retain body heat later.

The eyes of the baby during this time remains shut and the scalp hair along with body hair continues to grow. The breathing exercises of the baby starts from this stage as the baby inhales the amniotic fluids in its lungs. Expecting mothers can have contractions that are popularly known as the Braxton Hicks contractions. These contractions are not harmful to the baby in any form. Other changes in the body of the pregnant mother is the dryness of skin that gives rise to itchiness. Stretch marks appear at all the places where there is expansion of the skin due to pregnancy in 24th week. Eyes at times feel dry for which there are eye drops prescribed by the gynecologist.

The lack of space in the uterus gives contractions but they are not labor pains. Pregnancy in 24th week leads to constipation, indigestion, frequent urination and heartburn. If there are hemorrhoids and round ligament pain, there are chances of discomforts. These occur because of the pressure in the uterine wall. This is the reason for constipation and at times there are bleeding from the anal region. The health of the mother is very important. Therefore there must be a healthy diet of all the necessary proteins and minerals. Habits like smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited during this time.
