Production

Some of the major transformations of life history even in minute multicellular organisms have been the result of hormone regulation. Many evidences have also pointed out to major evolutionary alterations in the life history of many species on earth. Humans are not an exception to this natural phenomenon as well. The thyroxine production is an important activity which is related to thyroxin hormone. It is important to note that thyroxine hormone is found in thyroid, which is an important gland of endocrine system. One of the essential components of thyroxine production is Iodine. So there is no doubt, when the diet has Iron deficiency, it shows up in the form of enlarged thyroid gland sometimes even resulting in swollen necks of goitre.

Thyroxine production is very much crucial to regulating metabolism and growth and is not only restricted to mere human species. By this you can very well understand it’s all important nature. Studies have even showed that when thyroxine is administered it becomes potential enough for triggering off metamorphosis. Children born with hormone deficiency generally can have severe problems related to serious brain development. This can result in severe impairment, a condition which is referred to as cretinism. This is a major reason as to why new born children are now made to undergo routine tests at birth for any possible thyroid hormone deficiency.

Based on the production of thyroxine, two kinds of state may be acquired, namely, Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a condition which results due to inadequate thyroxine. In other words the sufferers tend to get tired, gain weight, feel sluggish most of the time and feel more cold than normal. The general treatment which is prescribed for such situation is replacement of missing hormone by a simple tablet of synthetic hormone. When there is excess of thyroxine production, then Hyperthyroidism is acquired. In this case, the heart rate and metabolic rate of the sufferer increases. The patient might even get intolerant of heat.

The treatment which is generally considered for such cases comprises of drugs that curb down thyroxine production. In extreme cases, thyroid is even removed in order to save a patient's life. Replacement thyroxine remains the only option for the rest of the life for that patient.
